"Does Sirius expect different to yous?" Lily asked suddenly, her gaze focused on the male child equally she tried to pinpoint what had changed.
You gave Sirius a quick once over, watching his profile as he spoke animatedly to James in the corner of the mutual room. "He doesn't look different to me."
"I'll tell you what information technology is," Marlene leaned herself over the table, elbow resting in your open book as she pointed. "He shaved."
Lily let out a gasp. "You're right! He finally shaved that god atrocious mustache."
You gave Sirius a 2d look, peering closely at his upper lip to find that Marlene was right. Different James, who was sporting a patchy, wispy mess you could barely call a mustache, Sirius looked entirely clean shaven. You artsy your head in defoliation. Mere days earlier the two were bragging profusely about how they were both growing out facial hair, the protests of Lily and all your other friends falling on deafened ears.
"That'southward odd," you murmured off handedly, spending maybe a moment longer than necessary staring at his mouth, before your friends snapped yous out of it.
"It's weird because nosotros were just talking about information technology yesterday," Marlene connected, both her and Lily still watching the boy. "Retrieve?"
"Yes, I guess," you replied. "But we were just talking nigh guys in full general, not Sirius."
You'd remembered the day clearly, you and the girls focused on the expansion of the Blackness Lake as yous spoke nearly the stress of classes and teased Lily on her not and then subtle trounce on James.
"I don't like him," Lily whined, shoving Marlene in the shoulder. "Besides, I'll never date him if he continues growing that absurd mustache."
"What, you lot don't like facial hair?" Marlene teased, wiggling her brows at the redhead.
"If you lot can even call it that," yous joked. "Simply Lily's right, I'm not the facial pilus type."
"And merely what type are you, then?"
"Oi, Marlene," James' voice ripped yous from the memory and you lot blinked to find that the ii boys were now much closer to the table. "You checking out Pads or something?"
"He wishes," Marlene shot back, leaning back downwards in her seat. "Just noticed he shaved, that'south all."
The boy in question pinked slightly at the sudden attention, laughing awkwardly as he scratched at the back of his cervix.
"But thought I needed a change," he shrugged.
"A change?" James glared at his friend. "What happened to the brotherhood? Nosotros were supposed to exist in this together."
"Oh, go out it James," Lily reprimanded. "He looks better than whatever'due south growing on your confront."
"What do you lot recall, Y/Northward?" Sirius asked, casting his gaze to where you lot were sitting, slight uncertainty wavering in his eyes.
"You await-" You looked down, cheeks heating up all of a sudden. "Nice."
"Well, I like when a guy has longer hair."
You lot didn't retrieve much of your conversation at the lake until Sirius, again, walked into the common room a changed man. You were far too entranced in your book, not even hearing the male child come up in every bit yous propped yourself on i of the couches, simply you lot heard the loud whooping that followed him. Setting downward your book with a sigh you lot turned to berate them for their loudness, before Peter's words cut y'all off before you could fifty-fifty open your oral cavity.
"I can't believe you lot fought Malfoy."
Your eyes widened the size of saucers, the entirety of your attention snapping to Sirius equally yous raked over his body for any injuries. Sure plenty, the boy was sprouting a newly formed black eye and a cutting on his left cheek. You rose from the couch, book discarded to the floor equally fume practically blew out of your ears.
"You did what?"
Sirius froze, turning to confront y'all slowly, stuck mid-stride every bit fear filled his optics. You were looking at him, fists clenched, and, while he'd beaten Malfoy with ease, a fight with you was one he was sure he'd lose. Your demeanor softened when yous saw the splitting skin of his duke and the ruptured peel on his cheek — no dubiousness caused by the family band Malfoy treated like a treasure.
"I-" As if he all of a sudden regained his composure, Sirius began to explain himself.
"Save information technology," you held up a hand, frustration evaporating from your body. "But, let me patch you upwards before it gets infected."
Sirius nodded, keeping his mouth shut as he stepped over your book and collapsed on the couch. The other boys had gone eerily quiet — though not even that could hide the coy smile on James' lips — and took their go out as you ran upwardly to your room to fetch a wet rag.
"He was talking nearly you, yous know," Sirius confessed every bit you cleaned the blood from his knuckles. The silence was getting to him and he hoped badly that you weren't aroused with him.
"I tin can take care of myself," you replied, not looking upward from his manus.
"I know you can, information technology's just-" Sirius stopped himself, optics hardening in a fashion you'd never seen before. "I wasn't going to let him get away with talking about you like that."
Surprised past the sincerity behind his words, you dropped the rag to your lap. Yous'd always known Sirius was loyal. This wasn't even the first fourth dimension he'd gotten in a fight defending the people he cared about. Except commonly those people were the Marauders or, on a few occasions, Lily. You'd never idea he'd go to such lengths for you.
Collecting yourself, you lot gave his paw a cursory squeeze. "Well, cheers."
Moving to his cheek, you paused, studying him with a new curiosity. He swallowed nervously as your nimble fingers brushed a loose piece of hair behind his ear gently.
"You're growing your hair out," you stated quietly.
"Aye," Sirius breathed, the temper around you growing warmer.
You smiled, dabbing lightly at his cheek equally if finally remembering your initial intentions. "Information technology suits y'all."
"And it helps if he's ambitious."
"Accept y'all seen Sirius?" James ran a paw through his tousled hair, defoliation etched on his face as he approached.
You glanced around the empty library, your table seeming to be the only ane that was cluttered with books and parchment, earlier giving James an odd look. "Yous call back he'd be here?"
"Well, he's been studying in the library since Monday, I really don't know what's gotten into him." James plopped downwards next to y'all, jostling your ink and almost spilling it over your charms homework.
You grabbed the small jar, setting information technology upright and shooting the boy a glare, earlier the reality of his words gear up in. "Expect, Sirius is studying?"
James nodded solemnly. "He asked Remus for assistance too. Said he wanted to take his classes more seriously."
Your brows furrowed. "Since when?"
"That's what I'grand saying!" James threw his hands upwards in exasperation. "I call up something's wrong with him." He let out a loud sigh, clapping his easily on his thighs before continuing up. "Well, if you see him will you let me know?"
You nodded, watching the bespectacled male child walk out of the library before getting up yourself. If Sirius was truly studying that would exist a sight to behold, and certainly one you didn't want to miss. Also, a break from your homework was something yous'd never pass upwards on.
Certain enough, Sirius was hunched over a table, quill in between his teeth as he read over a passage. You watched as he used his finger to follow the lines, restarting the same paragraph at least three times before you finally opened your mouth.
"Okay, this" yous gestured to the table in front of yous, startling the boy every bit he turned to stare at you, "is also much. What'southward going on with you?"
"What do you mean?" Sirius asked nervously.
"You're acting strange," you moved to stand in front of him. "Now, spill."
"Yous recollect it's strange for me to be ambitious?"
"This has nothing to exercise with your ambition-" You cutting yourself off. Appetite. Where had you heard that before? Of a sudden, everything began to make sense. His hair, his constant need to shave, the way he was currently blowing off all his friends to written report. "Wait a minute, were you spying on me?"
"What? No, I-" Sirius stammered.
Y'all let out a gasp. "You lot were."
"Information technology was an accident!" Sirius held his hands up, nearly tripping as he got upwards from the table hastily. "I swear it was an accident."
"Is that why y'all've been acting so odd? Because you wanted Marlene to like you?"
"Marlene?" Sirius stopped in forepart of you, face well-nigh entirely pinkish. "Y/N, I was trying to impress you."
"Me?" Your voice barbarous to a whisper, eyebrows raised in surprise. "You like me?"
"Of course, I similar you," he let out a soft sigh. "You're kind and funny and smart, non to mention beautiful and I-"
You moved quickly, tangling your hands in his pilus as yous pressed your lips onto his. His mouth was even so open and you ended up kissing his teeth more than anything, the embarrassment alone enough to make you lot pull abroad. But then his easily were on your hips, pulling you into him every bit he explored your mouth with a more prepared urgency.
"I'd never want yous to modify for me, Sirius," you murmured in between kisses. "I similar you lot simply the way you are."
He pulled away all of a sudden, a smile taking over his face. "You practise?"
"Of class, yous brand me laugh and defend me when I'chiliad non around…" You trailed off, looking upwards at him through your lashes. "I really practice like you."
"Though," you paused, carding your fingers through his raven locks "I actually love your hair like this."
Sirius let out a laugh, 1 you could hear vibrating though your chest every bit he held you lot shut. "I suppose information technology's growing on me too."
"Merely mostly, I just desire a guy who makes me happy."
